An important place that reflects the history of the town — a house of worship, a site of remembrance, and today one of Kattankudy's most visited historical places.

The Kattankudy Meera Jumma Mosque is considered an important place that reflects the history of the town. On 3 August 1990, while people were engaged in night prayers, 103 worshippers were shot and killed by the LTTE.

Today, the mosque has become one of the places visited as a historical and tourist site — standing as both a living place of worship and a memorial to those who died.
